Stress
This week in my Family Relations class we discussed stress. For most people stress is shown as only a negative thing. Though stress is not easy and can be hard on the body, it can also have some positive outcome with it. But people tend to avoid everything at all costs that would give them stress because it’s hard and scary. When stress is an essential to having some of the most important things come into our lives and become the things that we will look back on and remember that even though it was hard it was important to go through. When going through stress it is able to shape us into the people that we are meant to become whether that be helping us grow and that life isn’t supposed to be easy and that it’s necessary.
Though stress isn’t always the easiest thing to go through, it is an essential part of life. An example is that when you work out your muscles when you are working out your muscles you are putting stress on your muscles. But even though it does make you sore for a couple days and it would be easier to not work out. Now you are stronger and healthier doing it even though it wasn’t easy. And this very much applies to us in our own life going through stress. Though it isn’t easy it makes us the person that we can be. Stress can also have a lot of benefits for us. It can give us motivation to be the best we can. It can give us a boost of energy and be able to increase our focus on the things that we need to get done. Also, you know the phrase “practice makes perfect” this also applies to stress because when you practice at the things that make you stressful you are able to manage stress a lot better. Stress management is a really important thing to learn but you can’t perfect that skill if you avoid all occurrences of stress. But I think these days many people want to try and avoid stress at all costs because it is challenging and not easy to go through. One point that my professor made is that he thinks that this has something to do with the declining birth rates because many people are worried about the stress about having a family. So many of them put off having children and not having many children because it is true the more children you have the more difficult it can get. Which I thought was really interesting because it does make some sense because in all the many phases of families it isn’t easy and requires a lot of responsibility.
Life isn’t supposed to be comfortable; it is supposed to help us grow and have challenges in this life. When you overcome some stressful and hard situations when you go through it not only does it make you stronger as a person, when you look back on those things you don’t always look back at them in dread. Looking back on hard challenges that you have done through it can give you an opportunity to grow in your relationships with the people around you. An example in my own life is that when I’ve been through many difficult trials in my life it made me a lot closer to my parents and grew our relationship and because of those challenges I don’t think I would have the same relationship that I would have. I also think that it can show you the important things in life like the people in your life that are willing to be with you even when you are going through a hard time. And if you are religious those times can be an opportunity to lean unto Christ. It also can help you appreciate the little things in life and help you become very gracious and look at things in a more eternal perspective.
Though stress can be hard on someone, stress is still very important for us to be able to grow as a person and see the person that you can become. We don’t want to stay the person we are everyone wants to be able to grow and become the best versions of ourselves. Help us to understand that even in difficult situations that life isn’t supposed to be easy and have an appreciation to all the good things that come our way.
