Dating

Through this week in my Family Relations class, we began to discuss some of the important aspects about dating and things to look for and things to avoid. And I thought this topic overall, was very interesting cause as a college student this definitely applies to me now. That the way someone goes about a date really says something about a person and the type of person they would be in a relationship. That these days there isn’t a whole lot of planning involved when it comes to dating these days because it mostly just involves “hanging out”. While there is some ease when going about it that way but with a planned date that is planned, paired off and paid for can tell a lot about the person. Through dating you are able to determine the personality of a person when going on dates to see the type of person they would be in a relationship.  Through recent years going on dates has become more of just “hanging out”. And the cause of this I think is due to the fear of rejection....

The Difference

In my family relations class this week we had a very interesting discussion about some of the differences between men and women. But not concerning the biological differences but some of the mental and emotional differences between the two. We talked about some of the basics that we all kind of already know about, how women tend to be more nurturing whereas men tend to be more of the protectors. But some of the examples we talked about that I thought were really interesting were about how boys seem to either put their full effort into something but won’t put any effort into something else whereas women tend to be more scattered in their focus. Then we also talked about how men tend to focus more on being right despite the outcome whereas women tend to think more of the outcomes. Throughout the discussion we discussed many of the differences between men and women when it comes to their focuses on life and the differences in between their decision making.  One of the differences ...

Immigration and Family

This week in my Family Relations class we had a very interesting discussion concerning the effects that immigration has on family. And from someone as myself who isn’t really educated in this kind of topic it was really interesting to hear some perspectives from my peers and professor but learning about what it would be like immigrating to this country and the effects it has on families everywhere. We talked about the transition people can go through with their family and being separated from family can take a toll on families immigrating to this country. Though in the long run it will be better for that family to leave, but the heartache and difficult time a family can have when transitioning into the new environment they are in and the process to get there. When transitioning into a new country it can take a toll on a family when being separated from family members for periods of time and difficulties of transitioning into a new country.       Whe...

Family Roles

This week in our Family Relations class some of the things that we discussed were roles in the family. And not just the gender roles in the family but we discussed the roles that the children can play in the family. As well as boundaries within the family and being able to provide a safe place for your children. For myself I had a harder time grasping the concept, but my professor was able to show our class that I'm going to share that really opened my eyes. Where I was even able to connect to my real life, explaining some certain behaviors that I have and the roles that I play in the family. Through the week we were able to discuss certain roles that each family member can play in a family, and the certain environments and boundaries we set not only with our family but with the people around us.      In our class we talked about the roles that moms and dads tend to play while raising their children. But the part that I thought was interesting was dis...

The Decline of Fertility Rates

This week in my Family Relations we had an interesting discussion at the beginning of the week discussing why less children are brought into the world. We discussed some of the concerns that it might bring, for example that the population being brought in isn’t enough to replace the old population. According to an article written by IVF Greece called Less children are being born in the world , it discusses some of the recent trends talking about how less and less children are being brought, and that studies find that “there has been a remarkable global decline in the number of children that are being born, with the researchers saying that the findings are “a huge surprise”” (IVF Greece). The article also discusses how a “study followed trends in every country of the globe from 1950 to 2017” (IVF Greece). Then discovering that the average woman used to have 4.7 kids but recently the fertility rate is 2.4. Which can also mean less money going into Social Security. Also discussing the m...
