Financially Responsible
This week in my Family Relations class we discussed the importance of being able to learn to manage your money to be able to stay out of debt. Being able to manage your money can make it a lot easier for you and your family. For example, being able to try and stay out of debt can be easier in one marriage, because it is shown that the leading cause of divorce for many married couples is disagreements over money and financial situations. When getting married or even before you are married you need to start to become financially responsible so if something were to happen you are able to know what to do or you are not put into a deeper hole while already being in debt. It is also important to be able to learn many strategies that can help someone get out of financial debt but to also help being able to stay out of financial debt. When learning about being financially responsible it is important to be able to think about these things before you get married and to be able to talk about these kinds of things and being able to not spend money that you don’t have.
When it comes to choosing a partner for when we get married one of the most important things that I think many couples forget to discuss is how they would like to go about things financially. Which I believe is one of the most important conversations that you can have with someone when discussing marriage with someone. This is important because though many people want to be good with money, some people are just not good with money so it’s important to see the type of person they are with money. Also because many divorces are caused by financial disagreements. No matter how in love you are with a person these are types of things that you would still need to talk to them about, cause being in love really isn’t enough. For example it would be really beneficial to be able to discuss the kinds of things about budgeting and make sure the two of you agree on things that you don’t need to buy. Also one thing that I think is important is to be able to see what kind of spender they are and if they are willing to sacrifice something if you two are running a tight ship. That they wouldn’t use that month's rent to buy something that you guys really didn’t need and risked getting into debt.
It is important to think of some ways that you are willing to sacrifice to be able to get out of debt or risking not getting into more debt. One thing that is inedible: everyone is going to probably be in some sort of money debt at some point even if you are the most frugal person on the planet. Because the reality is that your life is very expensive. But it is all about being able to get out of debt and avoiding debt. One thing that my parents have always talked to me about when it comes to money is that you shouldn’t live from paycheck to paycheck. If you go about money that way what will happen if you were to lose your job? You would ultimately be stuck. But if you spend wisely and invest in a savings account it creates some ease for yourself on being somewhat financially comfortable and less worried about money. Another thing that I think it very important to remember is that you don’t have to spend so much money on the things that aren’t important. I do think it is good to spend some money on yourself because it can feel rewarding and it’s good to treat yourself once in a while. But you need to line with your priorities and be able to see what you should be spending your money on.
Overall, it is very important to be able to learn to be financially responsible. And that it is important to be able to think about that when choosing a spouse. Having a financial plan makes things easier when it comes to spending money and avoiding and getting out of debt. That you need to set up your prioritize and decide what the most important things to be spend your money on that will make things not only easier for you in the present but in the future.
